A very quick note to say that we had a straightforward crossing from Pakistan to India. The weather however dealt us quite a surprise as shortly after crossing the border it decided to rain. The border itself was exciting and quite a spectacle with both traditionally dressed Punjabi Guards standing just a few yards from one another across the dividing line. We pedal into Amritsar and we enjoy the mud splattering up off the dirty road into our faces. We goose chase around the city trying to find a hotel and in the end we settle on finding one later - in the meanwhile we tuck into the most awaited beer of our lives. The feeling is like being drunk for the first time! Within our first gulps of the strong crisp Kingfisher, we start to lose feeling through our weary bodies - soon to be followed by tingling and an unstoppable urge to giggle. We drink in the taste and sensation - and we laugh and joke with the lively and jovial Sikh locals. We roll out and tumble around the streets before finally crashing in through the front door of the Hotel Volga - no need for luxury tonight - just a place to lay our spinning heads. The fun dissolves somewhat in the morning with a painful thump of a serious headache but we enjoy breakfast and we stretch out in the sunshine in front of our bedroom in the hotel.
All the best R and A
